How to locate fathers military records?
curiousone asked:
Is there a free site I can find out my father’s National Guard’s military record? I know he was a staff sgt. in the 1950’s but would like to know more details. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

Check with the state that he served in. I am not sure which part as all states call the records department something different. Find the department that governs the National Guard in your state and they can tell you where his records are located. If he served any active duty time those records are kept in St. Louis, Mo. at the National Personnel Records Center at 9600 Page Ave. Also, be aware that you will have to prove your relationship with him before his records will be released to you.

Be prepared to have his service number or social security number when you make your request. If he’s still alive, they might not release it to you.
