I think the only thing that is public record as far as military are military discharge papers, which if I am not mistaken every county court house gives access to. But, the va office would be the best place to start. You should be able to find VA offices close to you by looking online. At least they can answer you questions better.

You know his social security number and full name? If so, write the Army Personnel Center in St. Louis, MO.

If he wasn't Army, then go to the VA website for info.

Probably not since it is not public record. You can try contacting the national archives which has the archives of military servicemen records...

Or try contacting the VA.

good luck with your quest.

GROVER

The military will not "pull up" any civilian medical record. Stuff that can be verified by Xray (like previous broken bones or fractures, pins, screws etc) obviously will be found out if you are hurt later and they re-Xray that spot. Other than that, they don't have any access whatsoever to your past civilian records, unless you give them to us.

Why don't you just declare it, take the time to get the records submitted, and then you don't have to worry about it. It takes a little time to gather up the medical records and submit them through your recruiter to MEPS, and then wait on MEPS to determine if you need a consult etc. Your recruiter will be impatient, but that's just the nature of the beast.

Of course, if it is something that would disqualify you, then you shouldn't be in. It is that simple.

If you feel you have to lie about something - the only person that can screw you is you. Don't tell your recruiter if you plan on lying - as you will place him or her in a bad position.

Bottom line is that we only know about what medical history you tell us.

LYALL

Well for one it's not a good idea to lie to the military things always have a way of coming up. You will have a FULL physical before joining by THEM you pop on anything even if your just diabetic you can't be in the military. And in the military the background checks are ridicules and everything is done by your ssn where ever it's been they investigate. If it’s a broken bone everything needs to be given to them for them to decide x-rays what the doctor advised things like that. Get it .However a lot of people slip threw the cracks and they don’t find out anything until you’re in boot camp or your 1st duty station. In which you will be given an admin slip, medical discharge, and it will not be honorable (because you with held information)
Hope it helps/ good luck!!!!

JACK

Don't lie, eventually it will catch up to you.
The military has an honesty creed.
How do you know it won't affect your future?

If you don't want to be told that you could eventually be discharged...tough.

How about this, do not join the military. We're only looking for honest recruits.

HANLEY

They will only find out if you tell them about it or it affects your training. You will not get in trouble if they do find out but they may discharge you. Honesty is always the best answer as it is one of the Army values. Although half of the Army doesn't live up to those values. Bottom line it's your decision. Don't let your recruiter or anyone else make that decision for you.

If something major happens that requires you to be hospitalised, they may need to get previous medical records and find out.
