I know that my grandfather served in both Europe and the Pacific during the Second World War, but since he died several years before I was born, I’ve never been able to ask him questions about it. I would like to know the specifics, though, so I was wondering if it would be possible for me to obtain his military records.

If you want to find out information about a person, there are many places to get this info. Many courthouses are open to the public during regular business hours and anyone can go and peruse the records there. You will find tax information about people and the property they own, deeds, birth, death, and marriage certificates, and in some cases, military records as well. Most of this information is in the public domain and can be looked at by anyone. It is public knowledge and can be requested in

Mr. Main Event asked:

I served in Afghanistan two years ago. Did a six month tour but was not always in the up-and-up. I did receive an honorable discharge, though.

Can employers look into veterans’ military records (in detail)?

I heard the only thing they can check is what type of discharge you have. Is this true?

I had a few friends that I’ve been looking for. I’ve tried people searches, military records on line and even reverse e-mails. I was just wandering if one of them might read this and write back. There names are Michelle Edmonds, Tamara Sluka, Ryan Parsons, Gemaline Biano and Robert South. We were at A Btry 1st Sup Bn or 176th PSC or 261st PSC and I am Jeff McGlone.

Okay, here is the situation. I was a complete total dumba*s when I was younger, getting in trouble with the law. The first occassion was when I walked outside one morning to find some stray dog trying to screw my own that was tied up in the lawn. I gave him a kick in the ribs–and it just so happened that human society was looking for the same dog that had been reported. Hit with animal cruelty.

Later, I demanded rent from my roommate, who told me to go f*ck myself. I grabbed him and threw him down the stairwell outside the front door, causing him to chip a tooth. Slapped with assault. Then later, I went to someone’s property confront him about a text msg. Hit with tresspassing

3 misdemeanors. I want to turn my life around now–I moved out of state to find better work, but have only been working minimum wage. I want to join the Air Force, but I know they probably won’t take me if I say I have 3 misdemeanors in another state. If I’ve been clean in a new state, will they find out?

Lucky Gold Star asked:

Does the Military check your Medical Records from back when you were a Civilian? How would they know where to check, like what hospitals, medical centers, health plans, etc?

Do they really check your previous medical records from back when you were a civilian, even if you said you had no medical problems from before?
edit: im only concerned about this because i know someone has used my name and social security number for all kinds of things, including medical care. i dont have any medical problems what so ever, or a record of medical problems, but im pretty sure i do have a medial history in my name and SSN, even though it wasnt me who did it. i still get medical bills for things i never did. it all started years ago when my ID and Social Security card was stolen, someone is using my name for credit cards, medical bills, even an apartment was in my name that i never lived at. that is why im concerned about this.

I have been diagnosed with, among other things, PTSD and Bi-Polar I disorder (rapid cycling). The medical evaluation board administration person is telling me that these conditions are not rateable. Similar mental health conditions were noted in my military records before I was deployed to Iraq (during pre-deployment screening).
